Overview
Khooni Darwaja of Delhi as the name suggest is not any deadly or dangerous place, but a monument to watch having great historic importance. It is one of a place to see while you are for Delhi Darshan. Khooni Darwaja was built during the reign of Sher Shah Suri. It is also known as Kabuli Darwaja. Kabuli Darwaja was the name given because Afhgani's caravan who used to visit the Country for their business use to pass through this gate. There are three gates at different level and the entire monument is built by quartzite stone.
As the name suggest, Khooni Darwaja witnessed bloodbath right from the time of Emperor Jahagir who killed two of sons of Abdur Rahim Khan-e-Khanan. After that bloodbath at this place continued even during British rule as in 22nd September 1857 Sons of last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah Zafer, Mirza Mughal andf= Mirza Khizr and a grandson Mirza Abu Bakar was killed by Major Hudson at Khooni Darwaza. Mirza Abu Bakar, at the gate. Even during the Hindu Muslim riot of 1947 many refugees were killed while they were proceeding towards Purana Qila for shelter through this gate.
